Michael was known for his athletic abilities. He excelled in lacrosse and football. He played football for the Raynham Giants youth football team from the time he was in second grade through the eighth grade. He was also a member of the very first Raynham Youth Lacrosse team, and played for Raynham through the eighth grade as well. He went to high school at Bristol-Plymouth Regional High School. He played football all four years at BP, and served as the varsity team captain for both his junior and senior years. He also served as captain of the BP varsity lacrosse team. He was the first BP student to score 100 goals in lacrosse.
